How to ride Tesla Robotaxi · first time, step by step
Any Tesla account can request a ride inside a supported area.
The app. Tesla Robotaxi app, separate from the Tesla car app (iOS since Sep 2025, Android since Apr 2026).
The ride, in order
- Enter a destination inside the service area.You see an estimated fare and wait before you confirm.
- When it arrives, check the license plate against the one in the app before you touch the door.Purpose-built pods aside, these are ordinary-looking Teslas.
- Open the door, buckle up, tap Start Ride.
- Climate, music and seat position are yours from the app or the car's touchscreen.
- Pull Over is on the touchscreen and in the app; it stops at the nearest safe spot.
How long it waitsIt holds the pickup for seven minutes, then the ride may cancel.
Worth knowingIn supervised markets a safety monitor rides in the front passenger seat. That seat is theirs, not yours.
