First fifteen with G80e.

Port, keys, photo the gauge. Then you can ignore us until charge. Prices stay off this path.

  1. Find the charge port and the key card. NACS on this class. Year not set. Most rentals of this class are still CCS, so the named stall is CCS / EA until you set year. 2026+ is NACS.
  2. Photo the battery % and the odometer before you leave the lot.
  3. Mirror that % at return. That photo is the argument.
  4. First Supercharger: plug in, leave around 70 to 80, do not sit in the stall to 100. Named start: Supercharger · Belltown / downtown.

You know your way around. We will surface only the two things worth a refresher on this exact car, then get out of your way and into the plan.

More help · the essentialsDial 2-3 · a glance

Not a manual. Just the few things about this car that surprise people, calibrated to where you put the dial.

It slows down when you lift off

the #1 surprise
Lift off the accelerator and this car brakes hard on its own. That is normal, and it is feeding range back into the battery (a real gift on long downhills). Ease off gently instead of stabbing the pedal. The brake still works exactly as normal for real stops. On this car regen cannot be turned off. On a cold morning it slows less hard for the first few miles, so leave extra stopping room until the battery warms.

Watch the percent, not the miles

read it like a phone
Read the battery in percent, like your phone. Highway speed and cold both make the mile number optimistic. Below 20% start looking for a charger, try not to arrive under about 10%, and on the road stop at around 80% (the last 20% is slow and can cost you fees).

How to actually make it go

first 60 seconds
There is usually no start button. Most EVs just need the key or fob on you and a press of the brake to be ready, then you select Drive. Every brand does the shifter a little differently, so glance at the door card or the maker app for where Drive is on this one. And silence is normal, it is on even though you hear nothing.

If it steers or brakes on its own

safety
If the car ever steers or slows and you did not ask, you are in control instantly: press the brake or turn the wheel. It is an assistant, not a driver. Keep your eyes up and hands on.

The charge port hides in the grille

No visible door: the port sits behind a panel in the driver-side grille · press to open (2026 cars do it electronically). Nose-in parking at chargers is your friend. It charges on 800V like an Ioniq, so precondition and expect quick DC stops.

No frunk · the trunk is it

This is a converted luxury sedan platform, so there is no front storage · the trunk carries everything. Rear-seat space is the point of this car; use it for soft bags before you stack the trunk shut.

Regen paddles change the feel

Left and right paddles step regen up or down. Level 0 feels more like a gas car; higher levels one-pedal more. Pick a level you like in a quiet lot before traffic.

Trust percent more than miles

The mile estimate is optimistic on highway and cold days. Plan stops from battery percent. Below about 20% start looking; try not to arrive under 10% at a busy site.

First fifteen minutes

Find Drive, feel regen in a quiet street, and confirm walk-away lock once. After that the car is just a car. Everything else is percent, plugs, and return time.

First fifteen minutes

  1. Fob on you, brake in, select Drive on the rotary or stalk.
  2. Try one regen paddle step up and down so the pedal feel is not a surprise.
  3. Lock from the fob once and confirm the mirrors or lights answer.

Do these in the lot or a quiet street when you can. This is the calm before the day math.

The good stuff

Here is your day

The one calm layer that answers the only three questions that matter: will I make it, where do I stop, and how long there. Move the sliders and watch it recompute.

Illustrative. Range is derated for highway speed (~82% of the sticker) and today's conditions, with a ~15% arrival cushion. Live weather sharpens this once your town or destination is set.

Return Sunday

The desk sets the return % at pickup. Right now you are at about 70%. When in doubt, photograph the gauge at pickup and match it at return.

Your return-charge target at drop-off

Ask whoever you rented from for their return-charge rule, and snap the gauge at pickup so there is never a dispute. Rules vary by desk. When in doubt, photograph the gauge at pickup and match it at return. You told us you return it Sunday.
Confirm the return % at pickup or in their app.

Rain and wet roads cut the first-weekend glow in rain / wet cold

Seattle's real range tax is wet roads + cabin heat + a cool pack, not just snow. Rain year-round and 40s much of the year softens regen until warm. Precondition for DC, leave more margin than a dry LA day, and treat this as temporary physics, not a broken rental.
Always on for this metro. Flip conditions to Cold when the day is actually cold for sharper range math.

Hills + bridges: budget time and tolls on hills and bridges

Queen Anne grades and cross-lake trips teach regen quickly. Toll bridges and ferry plans add cost and schedule risk that electricity does not fix. If a ferry is in the weekend, confirm wait times before you cut SOC too close.

SEA-Tac return: charge in the city edge near SEA

Top up on the approach, photograph SOC, then return. Do not invent a charger hunt inside a tight flight window.

Move your car when it is done when charging finishes

The moment charging completes, an idle fee can start ($0.40 to $1.00 per minute), and a busy Supercharger adds a congestion fee. There is usually a 5 minute grace to unplug. This is exactly why we nudge you to stop at 80% and walk back before it finishes.
A real build fires this from a charge-complete signal or your typed-in percent.
Charging complete at 80%. Move within about 5 minutes to avoid a $0.40 to $1.00 per minute idle fee. Desk return is ask at pickup; idle is separate.
