Pickup checklist

Confirm who pays at the stall

Rules vary by desk and host. Some peer or specialty cars bill the owner first on Superchargers and settle later. Ask at pickup, and do not assume your personal card is on the car.

  • Ask who is billed for Supercharger or DC sessions, and how chargebacks work.
  • Photograph the gauge at pickup and return · match what they expect.
  • Guest protection, deposits, and damage are separate from energy bills when those products exist.
  • If terms mention a Supercharger limit around ~$500, that is for this trip only · check your listing.

Your trip listing and host terms control. ElevnEV does not book rentals or handle Supercharger bills.

More help · the essentialsDial 2-3 · a glance

Not a manual. Just the few things about this car that surprise people, calibrated to where you put the dial.

It slows down when you lift off

the #1 surprise
Lift off the accelerator and this car brakes hard on its own. That is normal, and it is feeding range back into the battery (a real gift on long downhills). Ease off gently instead of stabbing the pedal. The brake still works exactly as normal for real stops. On this car regen cannot be turned off.

Watch the percent, not the miles

read it like a phone
Read the battery in percent, like your phone. Highway speed and cold both make the mile number optimistic. Below 20% start looking for a charger, try not to arrive under about 10%, and on the road stop at around 80% (the last 20% is slow and can cost you fees).
New to this car specifically? See the start-and-go and safety notes

How to actually make it go

first 60 seconds
There is usually no start button. Most EVs just need the key or fob on you and a press of the brake to be ready, then you select Drive. Every brand does the shifter a little differently, so glance at the door card or the maker app for where Drive is on this one. And silence is normal, it is on even though you hear nothing.

If it steers or brakes on its own

safety
If the car ever steers or slows and you did not ask, you are in control instantly: press the brake or turn the wheel. It is an assistant, not a driver. Keep your eyes up and hands on.

Nine thousand pounds · drive the mass, not the badge

This is one of the heaviest passenger vehicles on the road. It accelerates like a sports car and stops like a loaded truck · leave real gaps, brake early, and remember the hood hides everything close in front. Garage weight limits and tight ramps deserve a look before you commit.

Four-wheel steer shrinks it · CrabWalk is for dirt

Rear steering makes it turn tighter than trucks half its size · trust the cameras in tight lots. CrabWalk (diagonal drive) is built for loose off-road surfaces, not parking garages · learn it parked in something open before you ever need it.

The roof comes apart · on a rental, leave it whole

The Infinity Roof panels lift out and stow in the frunk. On a host's truck, removing them is a damage-and-loss claim waiting to happen · confirm with the host before touching them, and photograph the roof state at pickup either way.

Big pack, thirsty truck · plan from percent

Real-world efficiency runs well under 2 mi/kWh, so the range bar falls faster than smaller EVs and full charges take a while even at 350 kW sites. Every build through 2026 is CCS · Electrify America or IONNA 350 kW stalls are the fast path; a Supercharger works with GM's adapter but peaks slower.

Trust percent more than miles

The mile estimate is optimistic on highway and cold days. Plan stops from battery percent. Below about 20% start looking; try not to arrive under 10% at a busy site.

First fifteen minutes

Find Drive, feel regen in a quiet street, and confirm walk-away lock once. After that the car is just a car. Everything else is percent, plugs, and return time.

First fifteen minutes

  1. Key on you, brake in, T-shifter to Drive · the rotary next to it picks drive modes, not gears.
  2. Creep the lot once: it is nine thousand pounds with four-wheel steer, so it turns tighter and stops longer than it looks.
  3. Check height and width against your first garage before you commit, then confirm walk-away lock.

Do these in the lot or a quiet street when you can. This is the calm before the day math.

  1. Park at a CCS stall. The plug only goes in one way; seat it firmly until it latches.
  2. Tap a normal credit card on the reader, or scan the QR / open the Electrify America app.
  3. Unplug around 80%. If a stall errors, try the one next to it before giving up.

To use a Tesla Supercharger you need a NACS-to-CCS adapter (check the glovebox).

Your return-charge target at drop-off

Ask whoever you rented from for their return-charge rule, and snap the gauge at pickup so there is never a dispute. Rules vary by desk. When in doubt, photograph the gauge at pickup and match it at return. You told us you return it Sunday.
Confirm with Pick a source at pickup or in their app.

Tolls are real; the rental invoice is worse on toll roads

DFW and Austin run dense cashless toll networks (NTTA TollTag, TxTag-family, TEXpress, MoPac, SH 130). E-ZPass is not Texas. Many desks sell a daily toll package; without it you can get pay-by-plate plus a rental admin fee that dwarfs the actual toll. Ask at pickup whether a tag is on the car and how they bill, then decide before you hop a managed lane just this once.
Desk toll packages and admin fees change. Confirm this weekend with the company.

Heat quietly taxes range and charge speed in summer heat

On a triple-digit afternoon the pack works harder: cabin AC, battery cooling, and sometimes slower DC charging. Rough range loss can sit around high-single-digit to ~10% when temps stay near 95°F+. Precondition on the way to a Supercharger, precool while plugged in, park in shade when you can, and prefer early or evening DC if the session feels throttled.
Heat habits, not ownership advice. Flip conditions to "Hot day" above to re-run the math.

Move your car when it is done when charging finishes

The moment charging completes, an idle fee can start ($0.40 to $1.00 per minute), and a busy Supercharger adds a congestion fee. There is usually a 5 minute grace to unplug. This is exactly why we nudge you to stop at 80% and walk back before it finishes.
A real build fires this from a charge-complete signal or your typed-in percent.
Charging complete at 80%. Move within about 5 minutes to avoid a $0.40 to $1.00 per minute idle fee. Desk return is ask at pickup; idle is separate.
